The shortage of skilled workers is emerging as one of the biggest implementation gaps in the transition to resilient and low-emission energy systems.
As this transition accelerates, millions of new jobs will be created, while others in fossil-based industries will disappear. Although more jobs will be gained than lost, an emerging skills gap in the workforce could slow progress significantly.
The transition to renewable energy and resilient energy systems presents enormous potential, but to realise it, we must ensure that people are equipped with the right skills and opportunities. Without this, we face a risk of rising inequality and missed opportunities for a fair and inclusive transition.
At Mentor to Impact, we work strategically on the demand side of job creation, building pathways to equip the workforce with skills that meet the needs of a low-emission, digital, and resilient future.
How We Work
We focus on workforce development for the transition to renewable energy systems by building skills and securing the workforce needed across countries and sectors.
Denmark
For Denmark to meet its targets of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 70% by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, the demand for skilled workers will continue to rise. At the same time, we are facing demographic challenges, with large generations set to leave the workforce by 2030.
At Mentor to Impact, we are working to strengthen Denmark’s labour supply to support the energy transition. We focus on initiatives such as upskilling, continuous skills development, and improving workforce retention.
Europe
Labour shortages are increasing across Europe, while youth unemployment remains significantly higher compared to the general population.
At Mentor to Impact, we view collaboration between businesses and educational institutions as the key to upskilling and reskilling the workforce, ensuring the necessary transformation of the labour market to support the shift from a fossil-based society to one powered by renewable energy.
Global
At Mentor to Impact, we see Denmark’s approach to skills, education, and know-how as a strength, on par with its green and renewable technologies. This expertise can help address the critical skills gap in the Global South, where it poses a major barrier to the shift away from fossil-based systems.
We build partnerships to upskill and train the workforce in renewable energy, waste management, water, and agriculture. Our goal is to accelerate the global transition to energy resilience while empowering the workforce of the future.
