Green Transition Academy: Strengthening Green Transition Education in the Czech Republic
The Green Transition Academy is a 3.5-year development project launched in February 2024, aimed at enhancing education for the green transition in the Czech Republic. By integrating innovative digital learning tools and leveraging Denmark’s expertise in vocational education, the project seeks to equip students and teachers with the green and digital skills needed for technical roles in the green economy. In partnership with Purkynka, a leading vocational school based in Brno, South Moravia, the project aims to create a scalable model for vocational education that can later be implemented in other regions of the Czech Republic. The project is supported by the Villum Foundation.
Key Objectives:
- Develop a scalable model for upskilling the workforce: The project partners collaborate to create a framework for upskilling the Czech workforce, meeting the increasing demand for green and digital skills in technical industries.
- Enhance teaching with “twin-skills”: The project integrates both technical and digital competencies, bridging the gap between the skills required for the green transition. This ensures students are prepared for emerging roles in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable technologies.
- Equip teachers with innovative tools and curricula: Purkynka’s teachers will be trained in using new digital tools, such as VR, and updated curricula, focusing on subjects meeting the increasing demand for green skills in the local job market.
- Collaboration with local businesses: In the development phase, the project actively involves local businesses to ensure the curriculum aligns with industry needs, ensuring graduates are equipped to contribute to Brno’s ambitious climate goals and the wider green economy.
